About
I am an artist who cherishes balance, reason, and ambiguity; and I express it through a variety of working methods, from abstracted realities to nonobjective paintings of grids. I believe reality exists on the edge of perception.
Damon Freed lives and works in Missouri. He received his B.F.A. with honors from the School of Visual Arts in New York and his M.F.A. from Hunter College, City University of New York. He has studied with Jack Whitten, Marilyn Minter, Sanford Wurmfeld, Lucio Pozzi, Mary Heilmann, Susan Crile, Suzanne Anker, Donald Kuspit and Katy Siegel, among others.
He names his father as his greatest influence, along with the work of Agnes Martin and Brice Marden. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries in New York City, St. Louis, Kansas City and Columbia, Missouri.
Freed is also an avid writer of essays, poems and spoken word. His books include Twonism I and II and The Correspondence of Colors, a compendium of color theories.
